Poster Design - Extended Brief

We have been given an extended brief to this project, where we have to create a further poster digitally, so that it could be ma produced. We have been asked to do it in vector format, without using software like live trace.

I am goin to take my hand renard design and change it slightly. I'm going to us a different illustration, and create my original prefer styled, which was sketchy. I may add elements of colour in to aswell. The type will remain the same. I will choose the relevant typefaces to match as close to my hand rendered type.

We also need to create a ticket for the event. I like the idea of a clothes label. I want it to be made using a brown paper, with screen attached. I want the ticket to be used almost like its original intended use, but in a different sense. You can hang it up so you don't loose it. You can also where it on your wrist while you are at the event.  I want it to made up of type, maybe a small illustration, but I want it to be kept quite simple. I was thinking about using screen to print the ticket rather than printing digital type, I think hand rendered type work be a nicer concept.

Poster Design - Final Piece

This my intended design for my final piece.  I have gone with a red dress rather than black.  The reason for this, simply it was a dark color and don't think the fabric, or elegance of the illustration or potential dress material came through.  Not only that i planned for my type o be in black so this wouldn't have shown up.

The illustration style works well. The idea of elegance still come through and you also get the sense of the type of material.

I am still playing around with type composition at present.  The style of type is finalized.  The main event title will be a a scripted type and all other information will be in a simple type.  The layout of the type is style a work in progress. I want to make it quit extravagant. I have look at detailed bordering, but i think it would look far to cluttered.

Poster Design - Development

On development of this idea, I feel this will work very strongly visually. I could use other colours rather then just grey tones or black. I was looking to offset the image on the a silhouette of the dress in a different colour, but I don't think this is not necessary.

I want to look in to other material on which I can print other then paper. As my theme is vintage clothing, I could print my poster design on to fabric. Its a way of exploring different ways of using screen print. I'm going to try and do a range of different prints, by using different colours and materials

Poster Design - Development

On review of my design, I need to look in to another method for my outcome. Markers do work to highlight and show the detail of the material but as a screen print, over laying colour will not have the same affect. I need to think of a different way to portray this without losing the style and silhouette of the dresses. I need to think about a two colour palette, or portraying the illustration in a style similar to the outcome of a live trace in Illustrator.

Poster Design - Development

This are some of my development work. It ranges from illustration styles, the type of illustration, typeface development, and poster layouts.

From my development work, I have chosen my final design. It is very simple. The illustration is quite sketchy. I need to really consider this when screen printing, as it may not work. I was hoping to keep this style but I need to look it to other media, as they may work better and be more successful. I need to consider the media to ensure I can still detail the material.   I like the style of my type. I like the look at hand rendered type, I think It gives the poster a unique style.

I have tried the design in markers. I needed to choose a media which would work in keeping the element of the material, which I got with the sketches. I think it works well with the type. I tried a range of different colour palettes, I think the grey scale will work well along side the black type.

I have thought about printing on a textured paper which is slightly off colour. This will also had to idea of vintage.

Poster Design - Initial Ideas

From my initial ideas for 3 different events, I have decided upon creating a poster for a vintage fashion fair. My idea is quite simple, I want to use a simple line fashion illustration, and use simple scripted type. Now I have chosen my idea, I need to developed the design further, looking at illustration, styles, typography, and paper material.

Road Safety Posters

These Vintage Public Communication Posters are very unique, and inspiring.  In modern days this type of visual communication for this subject is very rare and unseen.  You will never see a public information poster, which has such a retro style, is simple and effective of giving the audience a message.   I personal find these posters inspiring, they are so different, but I make me want to question why this type for advertising is used toady.  I thin it would be far more effective than the modern day public information advertising.  It would certainly grab your attention, would it get the information across and for it to stay with you? Maybe that is something as a design I could look in to…

In a modern world of fast-paced public service announcements, it’s interesting to look back at safety messaging of the past. All still relevant and inpactful.
