Postage Stamp Brief

I have now developed my ideas for my Postage Stamp and My Stamp Book.  I have produced the design during two days, which was advised in the brief.  As it was a quick brief i didn't produce a lot of paper but tried to post as much of my development on my blog.  Here are the following final designs:

Postage Stamp Brief

I started my ideas by looking at how existing stamp books looks, especially the specially commissioned postage stamp designs.  I really like this layout and wanted to implicate a similar layout and style in my stamp book.

I used one of  the images i didn't used within my stamp designs,  The image uses a similar colour palette and style.  I wanted to use the texture of the material used to make the lantern for the basis of my stamp book.  But maybe a little more detail in the inside of the book.  i look at ways i could place my stamps also within the book.  I used the royal mail look within its guidelines for use which i found on its website. For the Royal Mail Logo Guidelines Please see the following link

I started to develop my initial postage stamp ideas further.  I started by editing my images so they were suitable for print.  I then started to play around with layout, style and scale.  I started to pick out areas of an image to focus in on, and thought this would make an interseting image for a stamp.  I carried this throughout all imagery by piking a selction and making that the focus of the stamp design.  To make the designs consistent i ensured that the queens head was in same poistion, so it meant i had to play around with the layout of the imager so they would over power the queens head. Once i had my final Postage design, i started to think about the postage book.  I think using imager realting ot the postage stamps will make it consistent, or even focusing in on the texture of the chinese lantern so there is  alink througout the designs.

Postage Stamp Brief

I have gathered a range of imagery which was relevant to the chinese lantern festival.  I have quickly mocked up a range of ideas for my postage stamp here are my ideas:

I have decided to take this and developed them in to a selection of four stamps.  i think the photography as it is very interesting and abstract.  I really like this approach as it gets the audience to study and work out what the imagery relates to.  I thin being too literal with this would be too obvious and not very visually interesting. Once i have developed my stamps i will look to develop the design for the stamp book.
