Final Design Outcomes

Final Poster

I have finally printed out my final poster design. I have mocked it up using black mount board and spray mount.  This is all ready for handprint.
Final Ticket

I have hand drawn all the type of my tickets.  I have crated a few different outcomes, with a variation in the type.  I firstly created the outline of my type on layout paper.  Where is ensured it was outlined in fine liner so it would standout.  I them used a graphite pencil to colour the back of the layout paper. I did this so that if I went over the outline of the type it would transfer it on to the ticket.  Once I have done this I filled n the time using a range of different sized fine liners, depending on the size of the type. To finish off my tickets I got some ribbon material, which I looped through the label hole.
These are my finished Tickets for my event.
Final Advert

This is my final design for my Magazine Advert.  I have printed both the design and how it would look mocked up in a magazine.  Again I mounted on to black mount board ready for hand in.
Final Hand In
For my final hand in I needed to submit
Hand Rendered Poster
Digital Poster
Mocked Up Event Ticket
3rd Outcome – Magazine Advert
Digital Submission – I have placed all digital files on a disc
Journal – I have printed out my blog to show the process throughout the project.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert

I have mocked up my advert with a magazine DPS.  When i saved it as a PDF format i noticed the type wasn't how it should have been. The type in places showed an overlay of outline and type and in places the fill had gone. I printed out the mockup to ensure that what was showing on screen didn't transfer to print. I didn't seem to have the issue when printed, which i was pleased about as it meant that i didn't have to go back and edit all the type.  I will ensure while printing my final pieces that this issue doesn't represent itself.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert

I have created my final designs for my advert.  I have mocked them up to scale in InDesign.  I have decided on taking both ides as my final piece.  They are similar in layout, type, and use a similar style of illusration.  I have also mock up a magazne article uisng  my designs.  I think they work really well in a magazine. I had to find the right DPS out of a magazine which would work well with my deisgns. It meant goin out and buying magazines, looking through pages upon pages, and then having to scan and edit them in photoshop before i could use them.

While mocking up the magazine advert, i realised that
my design could work aswell as a web banner.  i grabbed a screen shot of a fashion website.  I looked at the size of the web page and how it was laid out.  i used the bank space down either side of the web page to create the ideal space for a banner. I created the mockup using Photoshop and Indesign. I would like to develop this idea further as part of my portfolio.

Extended Brief - Ticket Design

From my ideas for my ticket, i obtained the labels that i needed to print on.  However, my original idea was to screen print the design, but as the type is rather small this would have work. I decided to hand draw the type on to the ticket.  I had to create a stencil and transfer the outline on to the ticket.  One i had the outline i was able to fill in the type using a range of different fine-liners to give different type sizes and to show hierarchy.  I create four different tickets with slight differences.

I have chosen this one as my final mock up.  To create more of a ticket style, i have obtained some fabric to go through the hole in the label.  The rest of the tickets i place in my sketchbook to show my development.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert

I have played around with my different sizes and compositions using the illustrations and type.  I like out all of the out comes the vertical advert is then i will take forward as my final design.  I am going to developed it to a finished standard and i will also try it out as if it is in a magazine and will make a mock up.  this will show how it will work.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert Development

I have developed these ideas further in the sizes advised. I have added colour to some of the images.  I thought that they would work on a large scale but I think I t works better as a half page vertical. I will produce both of the designs as final piece they are different and both very strong ideas.  While developing I will try to create a layout with this illustration, which can be on a larger scales.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert

These are some of the ideas i created for my magazine advert. I am going to develop  two ideas for my advert from my digital development.  I am going to try them in different advert sizes, change the layout of the type / illustrations.  I may add colour to the other illustrations to see if they work.  On this development I will choose my final design and with develop this further.
The dimensions I will try will be
Full Page
230 mm height x 158 width (No bleed
required)
Half Page Horizontal
158 mm height x 112.5 width (No bleed
required)
Half Page Vertical
230 mm height x 76.5 width (No bleed
required)
1/3 Page
73 height x 158 width (No bleed required)

I have scanned my sketches in to Photoshop, as a tiff.  I then changed the colour mode to grey scale, as they scanned in very yellow.  To bring out the detail further I changed the levels to bring up the pencil lines. I will also this process to create my screen print scan.  I then edited it further in illustrator, by added colour using the brush tool, i outlined the illustration before filling with colour.  I repeated this for each selection which i wanted in colour.  I then took my illustration images and placed it on top of the colours.  This allowed the detail of the sketches to still be seen.

For my advert I have created some further illustration, which I have hand, drawn.  I would like to keep this element of the design quite loose. So I would like to keep the detail of the sketches, with an element of vector colour, almost like mixing media.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert

As my initial 3rd outcome idea, didn't work as-well i though i have decided to produce a advert for the event which can be put in a magazine or newspaper.  I though this would be good outcome as we are looking at ways to advertise the event.  This are my initial layout designs for my advert. I want to development them all digitally so I can see exactly how they would look. Before I do this I need to do a range of different illustrations in different style to implement in to my designs. Once I have done this I can play around with layout and composition and will be able to see what works best.

Extended Brief - Digital Poster Development

I have kept the type similar to my hand rendered type.  The structure and hierarchy is exactly the same.  While developing further my Screen-print type.  I have slightly change the boldness of the type as I felt that it wasn’t strong enough

To make the type stand out better where it overlays the illustration is have created an offset of the type in white.  It gives the type a 3d effect, which makes stand out more.  It round through the bold pieces of type, its also makes it slightly stand out on the background

I mocked up my poster design digitally using the same layout as my hand rendered design.  I had already created my illustrations during my event ticket development.  On a white background, I feel the design isn’t working.  My screen-printed design is on a texture background. I Felt I needed to bring to life the poster with a background.

I then decided to bring I texture or colour to my poster. I used a simple neutral colour for a background but I didn’t feel this looked right I had material left form my screen print and I scanned this in.  I edited the image with Photoshop.  I think the image and whole feel of the poster works a lot better. The background brings in the element of vintage with the use of colour. I have chosen this image as I don’t think the other illustration were strong enough.

Extended Brief - 3rd Outcome

I have created some initial ideas, which I would like to develop further. I want to make my illustration animated so that it looks like it is walking. I have look and developed sketches to create the sequence of walking.  I have taken these elements and illustrated them digitally.

Once I had drawn them using the pen tool I have taken them in to Flash to animate them.  It was very stressful and frustrating doing this process. I have had to learn the process of creating the movement through tutorials.  I have managed to create a movement but it doesn’t look right,

I have tried to upload the video of my animation but its not working, i will get it up asap, just to show you how bad it was! I need to illustrate from by frame not only the leg movements but also the movement of the fabric of the clothing.  I think this was a good initial idea but with the timescales, I don’t think that this particular graphic outcome would realistic. From my initial design work for the banner, I have some nice ideas, which I would like to create an advert for a magazine.  I think I would be more realistic in the time scale.  I can create new illustrations to create different looks without loosing the style I have created.
Sometimes you have to take risk, but in some cases they don’t work out.  You cant disregard you’ve chosen that path.  I will keep the sketchbook I have created, this will show my thought process and why I didn’t end up developing and taking it further.

Extended Brief - Digital Poster

I have developed my illustrations further, by applying colour. I have used my pen tool illustrations and filled them with colours.  I plan to use a coloured illustration with my digital poster design.  I have created loose colour with the outline of the drawings. I really like how they have turned out.  The illustrations stand out; I have been able to make them look visually strong without loosing any of the detail from the sketch.

Extended Brief - 3rd Outcome

I have started to think about how I would like to tackle the final element of the extended brief. I thought it would be different to create a web banner for the event.  Do either an animated or static banner. I am going to think about the design of this and try experimenting.

Final Piece Development

We have been experimenting with screen printing techniques. We needed to learn the process before we produce our final designs. We are looking to do a one screen print incorporating the illustration and type. My design had the type over laying the images and uses to 2 colours. I need to consider which method work best for my design. I could screen print using a stencil for the illustration and over lay the type using ultra violet print. Or use 2 separate ultraviolet screens to print the separate colours and keep the over lay. I have experimented using a template. I could create a nice texture using this method.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert Research

Adverts  in magazines and newspaper can come in a variety of shapes and size.  I have research the most common sizes that you would produce for print.  I decided to research this so i could i would be able to produce a design which could work almost in many different sizes.  The design would obviously change depending on the print size, but its is osmething that would have ot be a small job expecailly if it was to be mass produced in different magazines and newspaper.
Dimensions

Double Page Spread (DPS)

73 mm height x 76.5 width (No bleed required)

Poster Design - Final Piece

I have finally started the process of scanning my final hand rendered poster for it to be screened printed. I had to hand drawn again my illustration and separate to be scanned in to photo shop. Once in photo shop I had to change the colour mode of the image to grey scale, and change the levels, to make the black intense. Once I had amended those I had to save as a high resolution tiff 8 bit with an lsw compression. When I had scanned in my type, I realised that not all of my type will be picked up by the screen. I had to block these out so the wouldn't be printed via the screen. Once I have finished I will have to hand write them in to the poster otherwise the type will be unreadable. I also wanted to screen print my event ticket, because of the problem with the type I have decided it would be best to hand render the type on to the material.

Extended Brief - Digital Poster

I have created some initial ideas for my digital poster. I thought i would keep it very similar to my hand rendered poster.  I have decided that the type should be kept the same, and i should show an element of difference with a different illustration.

I have mocked up a idea of my digital outcome.  I have experimented with different back ground elements and textures.  I think the background needs some kind of texture as i the white background doesn't really work.  I was originally going to fill the white space with sketches but they would have to be in vector format, and this would fit in the style i wanted to portray.

Extended Brief - Magazine/ Newspaper Advert Research

I have decided to do a magazine advert for my 3rd graphic outcome. I have started by looking at adverts in magazines. Looking at styles layouts, and sizes and dimensions to ensure I could make an advert that would potentially be versatile in those sizes. I have specifically looked at fashion magazines, because I think this type of event would more likely be advertised in this type of magazines.

Extended Brief - Ticket Design Initial Ideas

This a mock up of what the tickets would look like, using an image of the material, shape, and colour of the tag.  I think it really brings the vintage feel across.  It will come together once i have confirmed my ticket design.  And the final design is screen printed, the texture of the material will be portrayed through the type.

Extended Brief - Ticket Design Initial Ideas

For my ticket design I want to se an illustration, but also as part of my digital poster I also would like to use an illustration.  As part of my ticket development have hand rendered digitally my own illustrations. The illustrations can be used for both my ticket and poster design.  I wanted to make the illustration loose and sketching like my original idea for my hand rendered poster but due to the chosen medium I was unable to do so.  I have experimented with stoke style, size, stroke effects and over laying imagery to create a variety of different outcomes.  I have done this using two of my favourite illustrations.
